FAQ

Below are some of the most common questions we get asked:

What if I'm not a veteran?

You do not have to be a veteran.   While we have many veterans who are members, it is not a requirement.    We have members from many different backgrounds and with many different skills.

Am I too old?

Nope, never too old. We have positions for everyone. We need people with many different skills to help on all of our Logistics Teams.  Everyone can add something to the membership strength.

Am I too young?

You are never too young to start learning how to be self-sufficient through survival skills and firearm safety. To be a member of the Washington Guard, you must be 18 years of age.  We will be developing a youth program at some point in the future.

What if I'm not in good shape?

No matter what shape you are in physically, you are needed. We have physically active teams and logistical support teams.  No matter what your skills and physical abilities are, you can get involved somewhere.

I have a criminal background. Can I still join?

If you have a felony conviction, you cannot be an active member of the Washington Guard. Background checks are performed on all applicants.

Will my involvement be kept in anonymity?

If you so choose.

What about ethnic or religious background, does it matter?

We are only interested in the content of your character and your desire to be a free citizen and to support the Constitution of the United States and the Sovereign State of Missouri.

Can women join?

Absolutely!  We have many female members and they are an essential part of the Guard.

Will I fit in?

Yes, everyone is welcome. You will find that most of your common concerns are shared with many of our members. The more active you are, the more members you will meet, the more you will fit right in.

Is it legal to have a Militia?

Yes, it's codified into law and part of both the State and the Federal Constitutions.  The second amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Are there any dues?

Yes, the Washington Guard member dues are $100 per member, per year. A great value for the price you will receive thousands of dollars worth of training each year, valuable relevant information and instruction for self-preparedness and sustainability and a wholesome source of involvement.

Another expenditure when joining the Guard is acquiring your uniform and gear. These items don’t need to be purchased for day one, but you will need to acquire them over your first membership year.

What if I don’t know how to shoot, maneuver, or even set up a tent?

We will teach you about firearm safety, shooting, survival, tactics, working as a team, leadership and a whole lot more. Do not feel intimidated by a limited knowledge about guns or military items. We were all in that same position at one time or another.   We are glad to share our knowledge if you are willing to learn.

Can I bring a friend along to the meetings?

Yes, you are welcome to bring a friend to one of our Musters (meetings). In fact, we encourage people to attend and check us out.
