In 1953, Dr. Jonas Salk announced he had successfully developed a new vaccine against the poliovirus. This disease had been a major cause of disability in children leaving many deformed or crippled for life. It had major impact on generations.
Through the vaccine and tireless immunization, the disease was eradicated in the United States. It was one of the biggest medical advances in American history.
It has now resurfaced. In 2022, confirmed presence of polio virus was discovered and a resident was diagnosed with the disease.
There are many other diseases once eradicated that are re-surfacing in the US. And the carriers keep coming in........
